Traffic Management System Coming to I35 This Summer
A traffic management system is coming to I-35 this summer and construction will take place in July and finish in September.

If you're a regular commuter on Interstate 35 going up to Burnsville or down to Elko, get ready for some changes this summer.
The mn DOT has announced plans to install a new traffic management system on a significant stretch of I-35, which could impact your daily drive but promises long-term benefits for all motorists.
Project Details
The project will focus on installing a comprehensive traffic management system along I-35, covering the corridor from County Road 46 in Lakeville to 260th Street in Elko-New Market.
Timeline: July 2025 to September 2025
Budget: $1 million
What to Expect
While specific details about the nature of the traffic management system haven't been released, these types of installations typically include:
Electronic message boards to provide real-time traffic information
Traffic cameras to monitor congestion and incidents
Speed sensors to collect traffic flow data
Ramp meters to regulate traffic entering the highway
Weather monitoring stations
Impact on Commuters
The good news is that the city has indicated there will be no major detours required during the installation process. However, commuters should still expect some delays and possible lane closures as crews work to install the new equipment.
Benefits of the New System
This $1 million investment aims to:
Reduce Congestion: By monitoring traffic patterns and adjusting signals and ramp meters accordingly
Improve Safety: Through quicker incident detection and response
Enhance Communication: By providing real-time updates to drivers about road conditions
Better Traffic Flow: Making your commute smoother and potentially faster
As we get closer to the July start date, we'll update this post with more specific information about how the construction might affect your daily commute.
